The last potter of Triana

In the city of Seville, Triana was once known for its pottery workshops, but modernity and technological advances made this craft almost disappear like many others. However, there is still a romantic craftsman who honours this cultural heritage of the city of Seville. Antonio Campos is the last potter in Seville, and with the help of his son and daughter, he keeps alive the flame of his oven that makes this old profession last. A local newspaper commissioned me to do this photo essay about this profession when they thought this craftmanship was about to have little future beyond becoming a tourist souvenir for Americans.

The life in Sierra Maestra

I travelled to Cuba for a film workshop at the International Film School in 2007. Thirty-eight days in Cuba, three weeks in Yao, Sierra Maestra, and two weeks across the island. Here is a sample of its people and daily life in the mountains.

The theater of 1st May in La Habana

The first of May is a festive day that commemorates the workers’ day around the world. A day that is usually a time for demands for workers and unions; although come to less for many in Europe. However, in Cuba, International Workers’ Day is the massive party of the Cuban Communist Party. Detractors view the march as a show of propaganda forced on them by the regime, yet others come to enjoy the party. This project was my first university photo essay project at the University of Seville, Spain.
